Thanks to everyone that wrote back with suggestions regarding my high altitude no start problem. I spent saturday afternoon at a coffee shop that had an internet hot spot sipping tea and reading back over years of postings on this listserve. I found someone who had posted with my exact problem back in the 90's. I was so excited I hopped on my bike and pedaled madly to the garage where my van had been towed and was able to start it right up. I'm now safely below 1000' on the east coast. All I can say is Thank God for the vanagon list archives. I don't know exactly why my van runs too rich at elevation but I learned that by unplugging my fuel pump and cranking the engine it will start to fire properly for a brief time before running out of fuel. Then you can plug the fuel pump back in and it will start normally and continue to run. This is a good tip to keep in mind if ever you feel your engine is getting too much fuel but can't figure out why. For some reason my mileage stayed good even with the rich fuel/air ratio. I don't really understand what happened but I'm glad to be back on the road, Daniel __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Make Yahoo! your home page http://www.yahoo.com/r/hs
