Window tint just peels off.  Soapy water and a flat razor will make short
work of the residue.  Tint that is sandwiched in the glass (like factory
tinted windows) will always look good...as it doesn't get beat up on the
inside surface.  As far as I know, VW didn't have any of the vanagon
glass "factory" tinted.
