From vehicles I have worked on and for salvage first the jeeps then the vanagons and then the toyota trucks. The first three are on the roads and when I find them in the salvage yards they have many recoverable parts. The aerostars have fallen apart quite literally and there is little salvageable on them. jimt On 5/18/05 5:07 PM, "Robert Fisher" <refisher@MCHSI.COM> wrote: > I wonder how many of those other vehicles are still on the road all these > years later... and how many of them are turning 200, 250, 300k on the meter? > > Cya, > Robert > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Aaron Pearson" <Aaron.Pearson@GXT.COM> > To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> > Sent: Wednesday, May 18, 2005 2:37 PM > Subject: jd power dependability 1990 > > > i love my van, but sometimes i'm a little annoyed that it couldn't have > been engineered to be a bit more reliable. the new york times just > reported that toyota and gm got top marks in the jd powers poll of 2005 > vehicles. this inspired me to look at vehicles from 1990, the earliest > vehicles for which jd powers has statistics online. i picked three > comparisons that seemed relavant to me. the rankings below are for the > "long-term" (4-5 years) reliability. we could do worse... > jeep > volkswagen grand > ford toyota > vanagon wagoneer > aerostar landcruiser > Mechanical Dependability XXXoo XXooo > XXXoo XXXoo > Feature & Accessory Dependability XXooo XXooo > XXooo XXXXo > Body & Interior Dependability XXXoo XXooo > XXXoo XXXoo > > > aaron > '87 syncro gl > >
