Hi Bob, Sorry I am a long way from you but I just replaced the canvas on an 84 that I have up for sale. In my case it took a good 8 hours and I did the job without removing the top. This one was the newer style with screws. You can see the finished job on my web site: http://www.subaruvanagon.com/84 vw westfalia look under PopTop - this was a Bus Depot canvas.
