NAPA/UAP sells the K&N filters locally but when I asked for one for my
vanagon they said they didn't have any and didn't seem to have any way
of looking it up to order in.

does anybody have the particular model # filter for the 86 and up vanagon?

Phil, I get them here through my Canadian Tire Store. They never have one
in stock but can get it ordered in. Watch for the K&N sale and order it then.
