RE: Removing the door latch handle...
If you look closely at the area under the lever you pull to open the
door you will see, I believe at one end, a small slot where the dished
in plastic piece meets the metal.  A small blade under there and pry
up, the plastic insert will pop out.  You then have access to the
screw (s?) that hold the latch mechanism.
