Just got off the phone with John at German Transaxle. He says that a
couple months ago they ran short of Vanagon automatic transmissions,
so they took a bunch of Audi configured units off the shelf and
converted them. It seems the one I got, they neglected to swap out the
hub. Honest mistake.
