Help! 1987 Vanagon Syncro, about 40K on engine, running strong and reasonably cool through Arizona desert, occasionally getting a needles width above red LED, with good reason-like uphill in 100 degree outside temp. Long downhill. Lost belt for water pump/alternator. Quickly stopped and replaced it, didn't overheat as far as I can tell. Plenty of oil on dipstick, water in tank. Didn't smell or feel hot. Fired right back up, all lights went out like they should. About 2200RPM, oil pressure light and buzzer came. I'm searching for reasons to believe I don't have a spun bearing or other rebuild requiring problem. Is there some wire/sensor I don't know about that could have been messed up by the flying end of the broken belt? Please!! The good thing is that I was 11.2 miles (per tow truck) from home at the end of 3000 mile trip. Thanks Raymond
