I had somewhat similar symptoms a few years back in my '84. The problem was a failed spark plug wire. The loss of power, however, was quite pronounced, as i was running on only 3 cylinders. I've also had a problem where the ground contact within the AFM failed (it is the copper spring arm that rides on top of the wiper). Check continuity here, and make sure it is a strong connection. Mine intermittently stopped touching where it was supposed to. A little bend made it all better. -Damon --- Tony Flores <aflores14@CSUB.EDU> wrote: > I have an 84 Westy that has given me some recent > trouble (or at least more trouble than normal!). > Several times now (in > the last month), the vehicle has failed to start. > Each time the vehicle was getting both spark and > gas, but would not fire and run. > > The issue seems to coincide with a slight surging or > loss of power just before experiencing the starting > problem (if I make a pit stop). > > Any ideas on what the culprit might be and/or how to > test the mass air and ICU?
