20/50 dino is all I will run in my 84 Westy, especially during hot summers and have for the past 8 years traveling all over the country. 10/30 or 10/40 is acceptable during colder extended periods, but that's usually during the winter months. Single wt 30 or 40 makes the oil light flicker like crazy at a stop after a long highway run, even with a fresh engine. Now for my Ex-81 Vanagon with the 2.0 Air Cooled, when living in Redding, CA, I ran 50wt in the triple digit summers common for the area and 40wt in the very cold winters. -- Jim Thompson 84 Westfalia 2.1 "Ole Putt" 73 K Ghia Coupe "Denise" 72 411 Station Wagon "Pug" oldvolkshome@gmail.com http://www.oldvolkshome.com ********************************** For older 1600 upright engines, I've always run 40wt clear back to the 60s.
