2 turns is correct. After setting, you must walk away for a couple of hours to let them bleed down. Bentley doesn't make this clear, most likely due to the fact that the only time they should be adjusted is during assembly. If they are really gunked up, then so is the whole engine and an overhaul will be needed anyway. They are almost at the end of the oil train. The oil that goes through them, also goes through the push rods and lubricates the rocker arms. Imagine what went through the bearings if debris is in the lifters. I must tell you that I once set my lifters per the Bentley(lash +2 turns)and got no compression. The valves remained open even when "closed" and this collapsed 2 of the lifters for good. The lifters were gunked up before hand, but I believe this wont be healthy for even new lifters. The best I can figure out is that Bentley ment the settings to be lash +.2 turns. However I am certin this will not be agreed with. What I settled on , and what works fine for me is lash + 1/4 turn.I think this sets the lifters at the mid range of their travel.Good luck in this prosess, Roger
