A while back I rushed to get my iPod hooked up to my van before a summer trip. I chose a stalk dock thing that fits into cig lighter and the iPod docks onto top of adjustable stalk, a short mini plug connects from cig lighter plug to the aux in on the front panel of my head unit (JVC KD-SX980). Its a good idea and does work as advertised but for two Vanagon related things, one is the cig lighter is shallow enough to prevent a good solid fit. I used an additional o-ring on plug to tighten things up, and two, the lighter socket itself rotates on the sheet metal of the dash. I solved that by epoxy-ing the lighter socket in place. But still, on rough roads the pod on stalk would rotate in the socket. I fixed that by making a support , first out of pink styrofoam (oh, how stevie j would groan), then later in ebonized oak. Its in the shape of a narrow curved fin, rather like a fuba antenna. Its mounted on the dash via an old floppy drive magnet (flat doughnut) glued to the bottom, and supports the pod stalk quite well. I find myself using the pod more than the cd/mp3 disc player now. Alistair '82 westy, diesel converted to gas in '94 http://www.members.shaw.ca/albell/
