He mentioned a light triggered ingnition module he had used and for the life of me I can't recall who made it.

There was an outfit called "Optronics" that made an infrared trigger set-up. My dad put a set in his '76 MG Midget, and LOVED the change from the "pointless" ignition that Lucas had designed.
