Yeah but with the plywoods lighter weight over particle board in the van will keep it bolted where its supposed to go in the first place. The vanagon westy cabinetry is actually a laminate finished plywood with a light core center, cant find it locally, I 've tried, its very light and very strong, and not made in the US from what I can determine. I personally hate all particle board products and try to completely eliminate it from anything I own. Its pig heavy, it sags, absorbs moisture, does not hold screws or nails well, it is however very very flat. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Aristotle Sagan" <killer.jupiter@GMAIL.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Tuesday, October 04, 2005 10:25 AM Subject: Re: Rebuilding westy cabinets in fine wood Have ya ever seen an old van that's been through both home modification (panelling, wood floors, etc.) and a head on accident? There is a reason to use melamine based particle board type materials. Wood will shatter (even plywood) into a thousand tiny lancets, just right for making your head, body, etc. into a giant pin cushion. Ouch. Just a thought. tim in san jose On 10/3/05, Pensioner <al_knoll@pacbell.net> wrote: > > Chris, > > The esteemed Leon Korkin, presently on location in UT, AZ, can provide > consultation on custom wood cabinets for your vanagon. > > Oddly enough his email is 'korkwood' korkwood@wshost.net. > > Does fine work. > > p > -- Where ever you are, there you be. Unless you're driving my van, in which case, you ain't got there yet.
