Hi; I am replacing my waterpump and thermostat in my 1984 GL. Since the coolant lines are so long from the engine to the radiator I am thinking about drilling a 1/8" hole in the thermstat's mounting flange to assist in bleeding the air from the system more quickly. This is an idea that I have taken from my experience with mopar 2.2 and 2.5 4 cyl engines, which are prone to air lock problems in the top of the cylinders. The 1/8" hole doesn't affect engine operation and makes a big difference in getting rid of the last bit of air. Any reason not to do this with my 1.9L Vanagon engine? Best Regards Howard Allen S.
