I should have said: tightening the hose clamps until they almost strip out
and still having a small leak.  What I found is that a hose has to fit snugly
(i.e., needs to be forced onto the fitting) before the clamp is tightened or
else it is going to weep.  The ones I tried from the listing just didn't cut it.
