Got to wonder if the seal was installed properly or if someone hit the
seal with the flywheel while in the process of reassembly?  Looks to me
like the seal failed as a result of mechancial stress applied to the lip
area.  It clearly did not fail as a result of rotational movement of the
flywheel or other normal wear.
