RE: New Shocks..... Jumping in here to emphasise a point. I drove an '85 Westy for several years with bad shocks, just accepted the bad ride. New shocks (KYB's) made an INCREDIBLE difference. Lesson learned: Run good shocks (and the right tires) and your Vanagon/Westy will drive much, much better.
