The MSD, (multiple spark Discharge) helps with the lean-miss fire Vanagons are famous for. You get multiple chances of igniting the mixture. This helps reduce CO for the idle tests that Syncros get. However, if the engine is running properly, I do not see too much value. The Vanagon ignition is a variable dwell design with the current control part of the electronics. The Blue coil will work but will deliver less spark energy than the proper oem coil. The oem coil has more than enough energy for any normal operation. The only ignition upgrade worth considering is possibly an MSD system.
