Make sure the crankcase is not overfilled. There should not be much viscosity difference at normal temps between 5w-30 or 10w-30 but we know better. Both are poor choices for any extended highway speed travel regardless of outside temps. 20w-50 is good down to about 20F. Synthetic 15w-50 gets you below 0F. I've been experimenting with the Mobil 0w-40 synthetic with good results. This should be good to ~-20F or lower. Now every time I slow down, like comming out of the highway, the oil buzzer comes on. Engine was rebuilt a year ago by vw dealer ( before I bought the van ). The buzzer never came on before this oil grade change, I usualy use 10W30 or 20W50 depending on temperature. What should I suspect? Should I just change back to 10w30. VW manual says it's OK to use 5w30 . Thanks Mathieu 86 weekender with 2.2L legacy engine 87 transporter
