I went out today to make some progress on my thermostat housing removal, armed with the good advice people I've received from people. I've removed both bolts which hold the thermostat to the water pump, and removed all hoses except the metal pipe and the short stubby hose (that's 2" long). Even though I now see that the metal pipe will pull right out, I can't figure out how to get either of these off with the other one in place: I have to slide the thermostat to the left to get out the pipe, but can't because of the short stubby hose, and need to slide the thermostat towards the back to get it free of the short stubby hose, but can't because of the metal pipe. What am I missing? Thanks very much, Wes '84 1.9l (manual)
