See, that's the price one pays for buying a car that runs! My 82 diesel
was my first Vanagon and the motor was shot when I got it. So, in the
process of rebuilding it, I figured out all those idiosycracies!
The black plastic device under the oil filter had me stumped for a
while, though! (diesel, remember)
