If you van is aflicted with the dreaded VW bus "dance" while passing
trucks or in crosswinds, try this: Adjust your review mirrors so you can
see the back tire, let someone else drive or look, and make the van swerve
back and forth on the road. If you watch the tires, you will see the
sidewalls flexing 1-3 inches sideways and the bus "dances" back and forth
sideways until it settles down.
Stock Bogue shocks are not bad, and ride very nice. Since switching to
more suitable tires, this "dance" is gone. Completely. I won't go into
which tire as that would start another dreaded D.T.T. (Dreaded Tire Thread).
Do the tires first. You might find the rest of the Vanagon suspension,
especially a late model Carat or Wolfsburg, is quite nice.
