Subject:Vanagon Syndrome??

Well, a new waterpump, new coolant, and all seemed well with the world.
Engine had been run at 2000 rpm and all air removed from the system, A
final check of the engine - rev it up my moving the throttle, and
suddenly the engine begines to bog down. Slowly, slowly, the engine got
worse and worse. Finally shut it off, restarted and it kicked right up.I
thought "That's odd!". Took it out for a drive, and a half mile down the
road it began to bog down again. Switch off, switch on, and it ran
smooth as silk --- for another two miles. Then it began to bog again.
This continued until I got back home. As I have tried to operate the
engine, it has gotten worse and worse. Each cyle shorter than before.

I have never had so much as a sputter out of this engine since it was
rebuilt 70,000 miles back. It has run perfect. Then over a three days
span, the alternator went, the water pump went, and now this bogging
down thing. Talked to Joel Walker. He beleives that my van has a
classic case of "Vanagon Syndrome", inspite of it's perfect performance
over the 70,000 miles.

So, does my van have Vanagon Syndrome or not? That is the question.
Sure looks like it, but I would appreciate others opinions.

I bought a tantalum capacitor for the AFM fix, but could not find the
RECOMMENDED 15 volt or the 25 volt 22mfd tantalum radial capacitor, so
settled for a 35 volt capacitor. Anyone know if this 35V one will work
in place of the 15 or 25 volt models?

Any input on this problem would be appreciated.
