You guys are paranoid. Most likely he has a kid in school. And do you know how rare a syncro with an SVX motor is, and put together by a professional mechanic. You can't drive down to your local used car lot and find one-- ever. You pretty much have to do a national search if that is what you want. Also you can do the math. Buy a nice late model syncro that has been well maintained, spend maybe $8-10K. Or a crappy one for $5K and spend 4K getting it back up to par. Then take it somewhere and have them put in an SVX engine, add $10K. He just has to find the right buyer. Someone might want convert to a camper and have a pretty nice 4wd powerhouse camper. >From: John Carpenter <Trvlr2001@AOL.COM> >Reply-To: Trvlr2001@AOL.COM >To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM >Subject: Re: FS: '91 Syncro SVX Ebay >Date: Wed, 8 Feb 2006 19:02:59 EST > >OK, He has 30 yrs experience?... and needs college tuition? >wouldn't that make him about 50 ? >Yes, people do go to college at 50 >but if he is a good mechanic, >he probably would never recoup >his school costs and his lose of livelihood >while going to college. >And probably would start out with much lower wages >than he was getting at the shop where he worked. >( with all that experience ) >I have my doubts. >Doesn't add up to me. >Not to say that he is, >but, if a person will skirt the truth >on one thing... >It is pretty easy to get into the habit >of.... >Folks, this IS Horse trading... >Let the buyer beware... >All Is Fair in Love & War (& horse trading !!! ) >best, >John C... > >My Vanagon was not viewed as an investment, but rather a labor of love.
