My 87 syncro when in "good operating condition" had a problem starting if COLD at 8k' or higher. It didn't want to start (cranked fine, would not fire), and ran like a bag-o-nails for a couple minutes. And you could smell it was RICH. Once at lower elevation no problem (cold or not). It was worse if it was very humid/moist (like during a snowstorm). Obviously starting at WOT helps get it started when cold soaked at elevation, but it did not like it. Down here (at 4400') it is not an issue. John Aircooled.Net Inc.
