the engine in my new-to-me '84 was rebuilt by VW of Canada; it still has the
yellow stickers.

Any idea how to find out when this was done? I emailed VW of Canada with the
serial number of the rebuild, but no answer.

Also, can you tell from the part number whether it's a 1.9 or a 2.1?
