1986 Vanagon GL

 I'm sure that some one els has had this happen to them.  I tapped the accelerator and the gass pedal dropped to the floor.  I though it was broken and I would not be able to get home, but after fumbling around with it I discoveret that it can slide back into place, a temporary fix.  I would like to ask how to access the area behind the gass pedal so I can see how to fix this problem.  Thank you all.
