Subject:Re: Need '82 water tank key

Hey Shawn.

I just bought an 81 Westy. It came w/o water key. I had my water key made by a local locksmith. And as Mark said, this guy had a bunch of keys to try first.

FWIW, take out the water inlet as a unit and give that to locksmith. Much easier for him; cheaper for you. One other minor point. After key is made, make sure lock washer for tumbler nut is on correctly. Mine came loose pretty quickly (no gripes with locksmith, he really "swat" over making key) on mine.....

I'm still looking for a key to the water tank cap on my '82 Westy. It is a metal
key which fits the brass lock in the round plug covering the water tank filler
hole. (Not the later style plastic keys which fit the plastic flap, this lock is
round and fits in the water filler hole, under the flap).

Or do I need to find a locksmith?
