I've had a Shadyboy on Joe's Van for 3 years and never had that happen.

 Even stayed dry during the infamous Buses by the Beach down pour and flood
2 years ago when we had to flee the rising Rogue River and move to another
campground.  Several us hung out under the Shadyboy and watched the rain for
two days.

I wonder if your mounting angle on the brackets is off?
