Do banks have some vested interest in a highball eval? My insurance agent said my Vanagon was covered at a value of $1900. He said the number was arrived at using the standard method, a combination of blue book ($2400) and some weird company I never heard of before who says it's worth $1400! He said this method ensures a "fairer valuation". My butt. That lowball estimating company seems to exist so the usual insurance thieves don't have to pay full KBB value, which is already low. Given a $1000 deductible, I cancelled my comprehensive. If they're only gonna give me $900 for a totalled vanagon, I might as well save the money on the premium. -- John Bange '90 Vanagon - "Geldsauger"
