I got some high pitch whining sound coming out of my transmission.  This car I have only driven a year ago.  I did not remember having this sound.
The noise is the same in every gear and it rises as the car goes faster.  
This is a 2.1 L van.  
I hope, it is some small thing, like a bearing I can change.
