A tandem is longer than the width of the van and you don't want the bike sticking out beyond the sides. Just fyi, I've built a few tandem bike carriers for vanagons. The bike is carried vertically on the rear door. My Tandem carriers have been used on passenger vans, westys and adventurewagens. http://www.telusplanet.net/public/gary2a/rack/4bike/tandem/tandem.htm Gary Lee www.vwrack.com
