The gas cap keys (different from the ignition keys) for my '84 7
passenger and my '85 Westy are the same.  I don't know how many
different keys there are but with that in mind, is there another Vanagon
in your area that you could check this out with?

When I remove my gas cap I leave the key in it and insert the ignition
key in the passenger door handle.  With the gas cap hanging from the
door it doesn't get misplaced.
