Subject:Re: Question on pulling the heads to repair leak

I've only replaced the head and waterjacket gaskets on 3 wasserboxers
but when doing all three, the cylinders would rotate and I didn't
replace the lower 0-rings except on one cylinder that I had to
completely remove. I experienced no leaks at the lower 0-rings.

Others have said that you can stretch the new 0-rings over the cylinders
but I didn't go that route.

you can pull the cylinders out quite a ways ... as long as the piston is
out far enough that the piston rings don't come out of the cylinders.
That's what determines your limit.
