I have recently had a "bogging out" problem....usually when I get out on the big highway and accelerate, my 1984 vanagon will start bogging out..like I am out of gas except no stuttering, just nothing...

  After taking my foot off of the gas for a few and feathering back up to speed is the cure.  What are some of the most likely culprits?
