Diagnosing pretty much any running problem ought to start by getting the system into open loop. If the sensor isn't causing the problem itself, it's doing its best to cover it up or confuse it. > Adjusted throttle switch, ran >like a dream since. Some indication now of throttle switch slightly out of >adjustment but not a major issue. Did VW break this when they went to the single switch? The adjustment on mine is pretty much a life-of-the-engine sort of thing. I had a little problem with the switch itself needing a shot of contact cleaner once, possibly because the boot around the operating pin perished and cracked. >I only mentioned this because no one has mentioned throttle switch >adjustment as possible cause of the 'long hesitation when stepping on the >gas'. Isn't it more like a convulsion? Engine stops running when it hits 1500 rpm and you become the out-of-phase mass that keeps stabbing the throttle so you go hop hop hop hop down the road...or does it have more subtle manifestations? -- David Beierl - Providence RI USA -- http://pws.prserv.net/synergy/Vanagon/ '84 Westy "Dutiful Passage," '85 GL "Poor Relation"
