Actually both VW & Porsche still produce the boxer engine (in water-cooled form) till this very day (VW: Waterboxer in Brazil for their Microbus Porsche: Boxster & 911) A Diesel boxer? Where do I sign up!!! Thomas Myers <thomas.myers@XEROX.COM> wrote: http://www.car.co.nz/newsevents.asp?articleid=11973 Article about the evolution of the subaru boxer. No mention of where they got the idea.. [ I believe they still pay a royalty to Porsche for some aspect of the engine design ] More interesting that VW gave up on the engine design and subaru has gone on to prove it was not quite ready for retirement. Article finishes noting " Subaru is planning to stick with its boxer engines as the basis of its future models and is currently in the final stages of developing a diesel boxer motor to meet market demand in Europe where over 50 percent of all new cars are now diesel powered.
