Hi all. *sigh* Am repacking CV's. After cleaning/inspecting CV parts I found that I have only 10 metal bits (plates with 2 holes) and 20 bolts. Some washers. My theories: - PO/mechanic didn't install all the CV parts. - I am loosing my mind as well as Vanagon parts. - Neighbours took them because they didn't like the "music" I was making pounding out drive shafts. or, - Gremlins took them from the greezy pile of bolts etc. to add to their collection of single socks. Bentley shows Synchro as having bolts/washers/metal pieces on front CV. Rear CV shows only bolts. I have 4 new boot kits ready to install. Given that my van had some or all of these metal pieces installed, can I install with bolts only? It boggles my mind that the CV's could've been working all this time minus a few bolts/washer/metal pieces. Is this possible? Oh and.... All 4 CV outer rings are discolourd (sorta black/blue) 1/2 way through from inside toward out (if that makes sense) on each side. Are they heat damaged and in need of replacement? Thanks so much for any help! Neil. Neil Nicholson. 1981 air cooled Westfalia.
