Clint: I am trying your suggestion here. I removed mirror, then removed the 10 mm nut and the (worthless) spring. There is now a cup-shapped washer on the bolt that is keeping the base attached to the mirror. This cup-shapped washer does not want to come off, so that I can separate the mirror and base, to get your suggested garden hose washer in there. Is the cup-shapped washer just rusted in place on mine?? did yours come off easily??? Any further expanation would be appreciated. Thanks.
