Regarding automotive propane installations:

Every province, and probably every state, has their own propane vehicle
installation code.
In some places it is okay to have a cylinder in the passenger compartment.
There needs to be an enclosure around the valve assembly, this sealed
enclosure is vented outside the vehicle.
For what it's worth, automotive propane cylinders are not the same
specification as your barbque cylinder or the westfalia tank.

Automotive fuel propane is widely available in western canada. Same
availability as diesel I would guess, I never have to 'drive to get it'.
I paid $0.48 per liter for propane today, gasoline was $.88 per liter. When
gasoline was $1.10 recently, propane was still $0.48, so the spread varies
but the yearly average spread is favorable where I live.
If propane costs the same or 15% less than gasoline where you live, it does
not make sense to convert. This does not even take into consideration
the cost of the conversion. However, a resourceful person can do it
themselves for a couple hundred bucks.

I do not need to start the vehicle on gasoline and transition to propane.
Even at minus 28c I've started on propane.
You can drive for 30 kms before the converter starts to ice up, so there is
no need to have a warm engine to start on propane.

I've converted a dozen different import 4 and 6 cylinder vehicles, for which
there are no bolt on parts.
I had a couple bi-fuel VW jettas, now there was a cheap car to drive. At
the time I was paying $0.16 per liter for fuel. The cost of driving was
inconsequential. Unlike today ..........

Any vehicle can be made duel fuel, although there are a few minor
compromises involved.

AFAIK, that would be illegal in the U.S. because its onside the passenger
compartment?
