This has been covered on the diesel vanagon list - -
as far as I can remember, what everyone is doing is
buying a new coolant reservoir (I think from a Jetta?)
 and making a new bracket to hold it. My '82 Diesel is
still a Diesel, and I haven't had to change the
reservoir yet (knock on wood).
