I used Krylon Semi-Flat Black.  Looks great but, as noted, will
eventually scratch.  I'm usually sober enough to get the key in the hole
first try but my wife's left hand ring scratches the paint when she
opens the driver's side door.

Powder coating would probably be best but it only takes a couple of
minutes with some masking tape & the Krylon and I'm willing to redo it
every year or two.
