ok, you know how all the vanagon westys have those 3 ports on the drivers side.. they always leak and water drains down behind them, soaks the insulation and rots out the horizontal seam on the drivers side..? ok...remember the '68-72 westys...they had a little metal "hood" over the electric port? well... my idea is a nicely made stainless steel hood that would keep the rainwater off all these 3 fill ports on the vanagon!! it would fit right over the ports and apply with 3M double sided emblem tape to the body.. it would be low profile, so it would not stick out more than needed, just enough to open the port flaps and keep the rainwater/sun off them. color choices would be anodized flat black to match the ports, or you could paint it body color if you desired. installation would be brainless..simply peel and stick! no holes need to be drilled that could lead to more rust.. this would keep all the rainwater from going down inside your van! im suprised someone hasnt thought of this earlier.. any sheetmetal fabbers out there who want to take this on? it would be easy to make. im thinking of kitchen grade stainless with some spotwelds at the sides to make the "hood" shape...and the edges crimped under so there will be no sharp metal exposed.. its got to be made of stainless, i dont want anything to rust and start streaking red rust stains down the side of the van.. i will draw up a design... chris
