Interesting thing here in Trini is that they're not even really very small cars. The smallest is something like a Yaris. Lots of very new cars on the very busy roads. Tons of Asian marques and a huge array of models. A lot of turbo diesels in vans, trucks and SUVs. I'm not so much whining for tiny fuel efficient cars as I am a greater variety of styles and engine options. E.g., there is a KIA Pregio truck chassis that gets fitted with flatbeds w/folding sides, box trucks, passenger vans, family vans and I've seen it with three different engine options: petrol and two sizes of diesel. They are well-styled with various levels of appointment. There is nothing on the US market that compares. Also of interest was seeing a very refined, brand new Skoda. Could well compete with an Audi or Passat in terms of fit, finish and engineering. My English coworker here with me says they are very popular in the UK and have available a 24 valve screamer that hauls ass. There is clearly a model in the US that shows that this variety of vehicles doesn't work. So, we're to choose between 20 flavors of SUV, 10 flavors of family minivan and a smattering of sedans and coupes with very little real variation in design or drivetrain. It's a bore if nothing else. -- mordo 1990 Carat
