I have not switched, but I would like to.  I owned an 87 GL automatic
and fell in love with it.  Billy Bones has a recently rebuilt 4 speed
with a .77 4th gear that I would gladly swap out for an automatic if
I knew how to do it, although it seems pretty complicated to me.  I
think the best automatic would be one with a slightly taller third
(final) gear.
