Hi Volks, This is to further carry on the thread about the exorbitant fees the UPS and Fed-Ex charge. In April of this year I bought a 15.50 EUR electrical device from Europe – that turns into $21.11 Canadian after the conversion. On the bill that I have received, the customs brokers paid $1.53 in GST on my behalf. Now, in this life, at least in there is no escaping death and taxes – so paying $1.53 in GST is something to expect. So, for the privilege of them paying $1.53 in taxes they charged me $43.65 in Brokerage fees, of course on those brokerage fees I got charged $3.06 in GST – more than the tax paid on the original item. My package was held up for three weeks in customs as well, so I guess they did a lot of work on the package during that time. Never once did Fed-Ex call me to ask if I wanted to clear the package myself and now almost 6 months later I get a bill demanding that I pay their extortion fee. What do you think I should do? I supposed I could always go to Wal-Mart and buy $50 in Monopoly money and pay them with that? If this went through the Post Office I would have been charged a flat $5 brokerage fee and it would have gotten here a lot sooner. So, to all people shipping goods to – please where ever possible use the Post Office! You’ll make some great friend that way! If you want to see the invoice they gave me please see here: http://www.fastforward.ca/BrokerageInvoice.pdf Cheers! David Marshall http://www.hasenwerk.ca http://www.fastforward.ca
