My dumbass mechanic ( a long story I'd rather not revisit) repacked both
front bearings today and appears to have either not reconnected the cable at
the wheel or broke it in process. He blithely told me that on this car, it's
nothing to do with the hub.

Which wheel does it fix to? What could he have broken? IF he didn't put back
the circlip on the dustcap, would the cable slip out to the point of
rendering the speedometer non-functional?

I'm trying to leave on holiday tomorrow and now I have to return to his shop
first AM.

I vow to make time to do my own repairs henceforth. Color me vexed.
