I don't know if an 87 has central locking or not, but if it does, try
going to the passenger's door and lock, wait a few seconds, unlock,
wait a few seconds and repeat. This has happened to my 90 when the
system got messed up somehow, and I have found that this on-off-on-
off will straighten it out.

If yours does not have central locking, I don't know.
