Sorry to hear of your troubles.  I suspect you've just got a clogged fuel
filter.

It may sound strange and doesn't quite fit the popular perception, but I've
owned two buses ('67 &'70) and four Vanagons ('80/'82/'87/'89), and I've
never once been stranded by any of them.
